CHAPTER I
General Rules

Article 1
Object
These Regulations cover the rules relating to Galileu Journal.

Article 2
Identification
Galileu is a scientific journal in the field of legal science and related disciplines, published by the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and directed by Ratio Legis – Centre for Research and Development in Legal Sciences.

Article 3
Objectives
Galileu intends to disseminate the scientific research carried out in Ratio Legis and to present other scientific research work in the legal field or fields related to it, whose quality justifies it, in accordance with the most demanding international criteria.

Article 4
Frequency
1 – The journal is published every six months.
2 – The provisions of the previous paragraph do not exclude the possibility of publishing special issues.

Article 5
Languages
1 – The preferred languages of the texts published in Galileu are Portuguese, Spanish and English.
2 – The publication of texts in French or Italian is also permitted.

Article 6
Type of publication
1 – Galileu is published online on a separate page available on the Ratio Legis website.
2 – It is also possible to opt for simultaneous publication on paper, the circulation of which will be defined for each issue.

CHAPTER II
Publication

Article 7
Structure
Galileu comprises the following thematic sections:
a) Articles;
b) Critical reviews of published works and comments on legislation and jurisprudence.

Article 8
Publication rules
a) The length of the text will be 25-30 pages using Times New Roman font size 12 and spacing 1. 5 in body text and size 10 and spacing 1 in the footnotes;
b) The title of the text will be presented at the beginning in bold;
c) Under the title, on the right hand side, there will be the author’s name and surnames (Indicating in the footnote his/her academic degree and/or professional area);
d) At the beginning of the text there should be a “Summary” indicating the headings, up to a maximum of three levels per heading;
e) Should the text have different headings, the first are in capital letters, Roman numerals in bold, followed by a full stop and the title in capital letters (I., II., II., etc.). No full stop shall be used at the end of the headings. Within the headings the new divisions must be in capital letters followed by a full stop (A., B., C., etc.). These capital letters shall be followed, if necessary, by lower case letters with parentheses [a), b), c), etc. and, if necessary, the latter shall be followed by numbers with parentheses [1), (2), (3), etc.;
f) The notes will always be presented as footnotes;
g) The references must be shown at the end of the work.

The book references made in the footnotes will be made as follows:
a) Book: SURNAME, Name of the author(s) – Title of the Book. Edition. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year, page/s;
b) Book chapter: SURNAME, Name of author(s) – Title of the contribution/chapter. In Title of the Book. Place of Publication: Publisher, Year, Page/s;
c) Article in a journal: Name of author(s) – Title of the article. In Title of the Journal. Place of Publication. ISSN. V., No., Year and Page/s;
d) Websites: SURNAME, Name of the author(s) -Title of the document. [Accessed on: date of access]. Available at: Internet address.

Article 9
Articles
1 – The articles to be published are subject to a double peer-review procedure, under the terms of the approved and current regulations for that purpose.
2 – Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding paragraph, Galileu may invite authors of recognized merit to publish articles without the peer-review procedure.
3 – Articles published under the terms of the preceding paragraph refer to peer-reviewing refereeing.

CHAPTER III
Bodies

Article 10
Management Board
1 – The journal is directed by the Management Board.
2 – The Board consists of one director and two deputy directors.
3 – The position of Director is exercised by the Director of Ratio Legis, and the positions of deputy director are exercised by members of the Board of Ratio Legis.
4 – It is incumbent upon the Board:
a) To represent Galileu;
b) To coordinate the editorial procedures and the activities of the Editorial Board;
c) To comply with and enforce the editorial policy and the editorial plan of each issue;
d) To coordinate the timing of the publication process;
e) To authorize the publication of texts submitted to Galileu after evaluation;
f) To establish Galileu’s library exchange protocols with other journals;
g) To foster the dissemination of Galileu.

Article 11
Editorial Board
1 – The Editorial Board shall be responsible for supervising compliance with the rules for publishing the articles, ensuring the maintenance of the high quality standards of the journal’s scientific production and compliance with the editing rules set forth in article 8 of this regulation.
2 – It is also the remit of the Editorial Board:
a) To approve the regulation of the Galileo Journal and any changes proposed by the Management Board after consulting the Scientific Council of the Ratio Legis – Centre for Research and Development in Legal Sciences;
b) To make recommendations to the Management Board;
c) To express its opinion on the report of activities presented by the Management Board;
d) To express its views on the editorial strategy.

Article 12
Referee pool
1 – Galileu comprises a panel of referees composed of external evaluators who participate in the peer review procedure.
2 – The members of the group of referees must be academics, national and foreign, with relevant academic and scientific curriculum.
3 – The terms of office of the members of the group of referees shall be two years, automatically renewable, unless otherwise indicated by either party.

CHAPTER IV
Final dispositions

Article 13
Effective date
These Regulations shall enter into force on the day following their publication.
